I want to tell you first that Editor Sam Pfeifle, and his staff at Security Systems News (SSN), alongside the folks at Security Director News (SDN), did an outstanding job putting together a great show in Dallas this week. TechSec was a little smaller this year than I anticipated, but it was well constructed. And the face time with industry leaders was second to none.
There was a major buzz about emerging IP-based technologies at the show: cloud computing, hosted video, and Security as a Service. These were mentioned in most of my conversations, but — more importantly — they were discussed on various panels from top executives and engineers.
I spoke on a Day One panel with Axis Communications’ General Manager Americas, Fredrik Nilsson and Brivo president, Steve VanTill about Security as a Service (SaaS). It was an opportunity for us to discuss how we have seen growth in this niche, the voids it is filling, as well as challenges that we have faced. It was exciting to see the reception. Daniel Gelinas wrote an article this week on SSN named “Managed services the talk of TechSec“.
Daniel was also doing roving interviews from the floor during the conference and networking events. I was interviewed and hope to see it posted soon on SSN.
On the last day of the conference, I was fortunate to meet Rhianna Daniels, Editor of SDN. She was talking about a tweet she was sending out, and I asked her how she liked Twitter. A great conversation ensued about social networking and marketing, and I recommended Tweetdeck to her. In a DM on Twitter later in the week, she thanked me for the recommendation and said she loves it. Rhianna did a video interview with me about social networks and how I am leveraging them within my company. I will post the video once they post it or I get my hands on it.
All and all, I had a great time and the event was a very positive experience.
