Thank You For Being My Bolts. So Long San Diego Chargers!

Dre Armeda · Dec 20, 2015 ·

If the San Diego Chargers are no more, then I sure am glad I got to be at the Murph today. I’m also thankful I got to enjoy it with my Lainey Bug. Although she had perma-grin all day, I’m pretty sure she didn’t truly grasp the significance of what today may have been for Chargers fans across the world. I do know for sure that she’ll remember being there 20 years from now 🙂

Lainey Bug

Our boys stepped up and played with a lot of emotion today. They played great in fact, and the vibe was electric. It was probably the first home game all season that more Chargers fans than the opposing team fans actually showed up. It felt like the old days where you could barely hear yourself think at times. It was awesome, and it was even more awesome that they brought home the W with a dominating performance. This game was our(my) Super Bowl and I’m sure glad I was able to be there.

Great win today boys, and if this is good bye, you did it right! Thank you for being my Bolts, thank you for being super. Thank you for the wonderful years and thank you for a lifetime full of great football memories!

The Eagle Still Stands Tall!

Dre Armeda · Jul 2, 2015 ·

15 years ago on this date I was floating a few hundred miles off the coast of California onboard the U.S.S. John C. Stennis. We were steaming home towards sunny San Diego from a 6+ month deployment. It was the first U.S. Navy WestPac of the Millennium. We where enforcing the no-fly zone guarding against attacks from Saddam and Iraq during our months in the gulf.

This weekend while you’re BBQ’ing and enjoying the holiday, remember what it’s for. Our independence and the foundation set when our forefathers fought to bring this soon-to-be nation freedom is the very thing our troops defend to this very day. Don’t lose sight of that!

Enjoy safely with your loved ones, but also reflect and educate our little ones. Tip a couple back for those willing to volunteer, those willing to suffer the ultimate sacrifice for you, all in the face of protecting true freedoms across the world. Whether you care to believe it or not, they are out there standing the watch for you and your loved ones while you’re eating ribs and popping bottle caps!

Thank you to all my brothers and sisters that stand the watch! I think of you every single day! I am honored by the oath you’ve taken and your vow to protect my county and my loved ones.

God bless you. God bless America!

The Eagle still stands tall!

Something Doesn’t Feel Right? Trust Your Gut!

Dre Armeda · May 21, 2015 ·

It has been a rough month with an injury causing me pain in my lower abdomen. I have been in and out of the doctor’s office the last 4 weeks or so running labs, ultrasounds and being checked for various things. Finally, this week I got some closure.

I reviewed my ultrasound with the doc yesterday and they found an inguinal hernia. In layman’s terms:

An inguinal hernia occurs when soft tissue — usually part of the membrane lining the abdominal cavity (omentum) or part of the intestine — protrudes through a weak point in the abdominal muscles.

This is something that could have been there for years and I just started feeling symptoms. It could have been that my journey to better health opened the door to preexisting issues from my lets say more “husky” days. I am sure my ab strength wasn’t doing great at the point I weighed the most. 🙂

In any event, I went and saw the surgeon this afternoon, and I will indeed need surgery to correct the hernia. They will be fixing me via a laparoscopic surgical procedure that includes some camera action to find the tear(s). I hope the footage is good!

Needless to say I am very disappointed. I am making progress on my weight which is awesome, I am floating around 200 (competition weight) and looking now to get to 185 standing. I am registered for a couple upcoming competitions that I am sure I won’t be ready for considering recovery. My Jiu Jitsu game feels awesome, I feel confident about my technique and it seems only when I feel this way am I presented with another injury, issue, or adversity.

That’s OK though, because I’ll get through it like I do every other time, it’s just rather frustrating. Ultimately I have come to the conclusion that I can’t change my path completely, I just have to learn to better deal with the challenges that I am presented with, and keep on, keeping on! I’ll get to my finish line one way or another!

See you on that mats…..soon enough!

Weekly Post Challenge

Dre Armeda · Feb 2, 2015 ·

I love to talk. In fact, I never shut up! I’ve often wished I could somehow easily morph my thoughts and discussions into written form. Wishing and following through are two different things, and as you can see by the gaps between posts here that being consistent with my writing has not been a strong suit.

Brad Williams, my partner in crime and co-host of DradCast made a commitment to write 100 posts in 2015 on his blog, Strange Work. Brad is a go-getter, and no, I won’t be committing to 100 posts. However, Brad’s motivation inspired me to do better at writing more consistently.

What you’re seeing here is the first post in what has been coined the Weekly Post Challenge. Last week I was thinking about writing more reading and sharing Brad’s last post, and I decided to post on Facebook that I was thinking about writing more, and asked my network if they’d be interested in joining me. The reception to my post was super cool, and we now have a group on Facebook for the challenge, and we have over 20 people committed to writing a blog post a week for the rest of the year. How cool is that?

The Weekly Post Challenge is merely a way to keep myself motivated to write more. Anyone is welcome to join, and I think the more people we get, the more we can help keep each other motivated.

So there you have it, my first post of the challenge. I look forward to writing more this year, and I certainly look forward to reading your posts!

And Web Dre Studios Is Born!

Dre Armeda · Aug 14, 2014 ·

The title here is nothing more than a play on words, but it does touch on news that I am excited to share with you.

It has been a few months since I stepped down from Sucuri and I have to say, it has been a wonderful couple of months. It seems like I have been able to spend more time with my kids in the last two months then I have in the last 4 years. It has been refreshing, relaxing, and exciting!

School’s out for summer!

My four oldest daughters made softball all stars and we traveled to various tournaments to kick off a jam-packed summer. We spent time cruising the Caribbean, body boarding in the Pacific, Jeeping the San Bernardino mountains, and of course, crushing it on the Jiu-Jitsu mat.

It truly has been great to take some time off. It has certainly helped me decompress and clear my head. After a great summer full of fishing and naps, the time has certainly arrived for me to ramp up which brings me to this announcement.

Time to team up and focus.

Without further ado, I am quite honored to announce that I am no longer WebDevStudio’s longest standing honorary WDS’er. As of earlier this week, I am the newest team member at WebDevStudios! I am officially stepping into the role of Vice President of Operations, although focus will be more broad than just operations. There are great things happening in the WordPress landscape, and this is an exciting time of growth for WDS! Here is the official WDS Announcement.

Shortly after I stepped down as CEO of Sucuri I had the opportunity to hang out and chat with Brad Williams and the other two partners at WDS, Brian Messenlehner and Lisa Sabin-Wilson. The question kept coming up as to what I was getting into next, and those discussions lead to more serious chats around what it would look like if I was to become part of the WDS team. The more and more we discussed what it would look like, the more it became evident there was a strong fit for me on the executive team. My strengths certainly play well into the forward vision for WDS, and along with Brad, Brian and Lisa, we came to the conclusion that together we could continue to grow this great company.

It was a no brainer in the end, and I am honored to have an opportunity to help build upon an already wonderful company with a vibrant culture. It’s a great place to be!
